LOLER Lift Inspections

Why does my lift need Inspecting?

LOLER, Or Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (1998) state by law that any lifting equipment, including Lifts / Elevators carrying passengers or goods must be inspectedd every 12 months. You will also often find that your insurer requires the inspections to take place or it may invalidate your business & building insurance.

How much does a Lift Inspection Cost?

Lift inspections must be done by a specially qualified person, who is independent from the person(s) who installed or have worked on the lift, this will come at an additional cost of outsourcing an independent inspector. Often LOLER Lift Inspections can cost upwards of £600-£800 each. ASCENDA Charges only £400 as of June 2024.

What’s included in a Lift Inspection?

A lift inspector will verify that all components are in a safe working order and good condition for long-term operation of a lift. They will not conduct any intrusive or destructive testing unless given the go ahead as this will require an engineer on site and will cost extra. Some insurers may stipulate this type of investigation is required where work is suspicious, or parts of the lift cannot be inspected without further intrusion.
